COUNTDOWN!

Being poor is thinking $8 an hour is a really good deal

Being poor is relying on people who don't give a damn about you
.
Being poor is picking the 10 cent ramen instead of the 12 cent ramen because that's two extra packages for every dollar.

Being poor is needing that 35-cent raise.

Being poor is hoping you'll be invited for dinner.

Being poor is having to keep buying $800 cars because they're what you can afford, and then having the cars break down on you, because there's not an $800 car in America that's worth a damn.

Being poor is hoping the toothache goes away.

Being poor is deciding that it's all right to base a relationship on shelter.

Why Now?

Why is ABC doing the nuclear attack stories now, and why was this prompted by government software?

What is the reason to pump the fear now? Oh.

They are telling us how prepared the government is for this!

They have been running drills.
|

The Strongest Opposition

Give it all now; you don't build muscle or stamina with inaction.

Roberts must be opposed. There is nothing to be gained, everything to be lost by rolling out the red carpet now.

Ooh That Smell

|

Ooh Josh!

This is like what we were talking about a few days ago. This is how repressive governments operate -- mixing inefficiency with authoritarian tendencies.

You don't repair disorganized or incompetent government by granting it more power. You fix it by making it more organized and more competent. If conservatism can't grasp that point, what is it good for?

That's the way it works out here in real life.

The Other Dead

How soon we forget. 1897, the number hasn't moved for days and those people we killed to liberate do not count unless they're called insurgents to make it look like progress.
|

The Party's Over

I forgot the details and I forgot who it was who wrote about the details. Other than some people getting arrested for walking without registering or something it didn't seem to be a really big deal except for the bill and the Kim Jong Illishness of it all.

Atrios asks where the Freedom Walk Website went to.

Al Sharpton Tells Jimmy Kimmell

"The President doesn't care about a whole lot of people, he particularly doesn't care about black people. His policies go from hostile to indifferent."

Amen Reverend.

Good Question

RDF asks

Can you name your local school board, county/city commission, mayoral or congresssional candidate?

Can you?

It's Slowly Starting To Sink In

Now the first response to any natural disaster is supposed to be a military one? That means that we have an entire Department of Homeland Security, 180,000 people who are under the auspices of the Department of Defense.

That would be the same DOD that started planning the Iraq War three years ago. The same DOD that sent soldiers to the front line in a hot desert without adequate drinking water, without adequate gear, with defective guns and sometimes without bullets.

Two-and-a-half years after the official start of the war and the DOD still has not managed to supply all of the troops with body armor. That is the solution for DHS employees getting in the way is to let the already overstretched military take over cities in The United States of America?!?

That probably explains why Blackwater mercenaries have taken over New Orleans.

The added buddy back scratch is that Karl Rove is going to be in charge of the reconstruction. Yes it is the very same Karl Rove who was promoted after he outed an undercover CIA operative for petty political vindictiveness. The very same Karl Rove has been rewarded again with another shiny new promotion to run a bigger meaner political operation.

The only thing I can think of asking about now is, was he rewarded for lying under oath, or is there something else that we missed?

Yet Another Flu Vaccine Shortage

Only half of the 180 million needed flu vaccines will be available this year according to NBC's 9 & 13 Heidi Meili who cited the CDC as her source.

That stuff takes a while to manufacture and it's mid September 2005. It's looking like a rerun of 2004.

Tel me again exactly what those guys at the Homeland Security Department get paid the big bucks for doing anyway, please.

77%?

Did I really hear that our winter heating fuel is set to rise 77%?

Read this one, I think I have some family members who will be in line to freeze to death.

Of course I talked to them and I forcibly stocked their pantry, but they are frightened so they think I am making it up and I am powerless to do any more.

Not Really Taking Responsibility

Sure the President could have added A few more qualifiers if he wanted to work at it.

What are the odds it wouldn't have been uttered at all if his back wasn't against the wall?

Vultures

First Business talking heads are creaming their creased jeans over the anticipated corporate profits on the rebuilding of the hurricane area.

They would say water and sewer projects, tax exempt then break out in a sweat while they jerked and moaned. Sick sick sick

Resignations, Please

Conrad, Max, and Denny, you have all been too complacent about your representation of Montana and your responsibility to America. Please resign now.

You have all been cowards when it comes to holding our government officials accountable for the lies, the incompetence, the conflicts of interests. You have sacrificed our Constitutional principles on the altar of fear. Please resign now.

You have failed to balance the budget, failed to create jobs that would make positive contributions to the future or even to support workers with a little dignity and security. Please resign now.

You have failed to learn the words "Downing Street Memo" and "Resolution of Inquiry". Can you really be so frightened of what you may learn if you were to make an earnest attempt to find the truth about why we have spent hundreds of billions of dollars and the lifeblood of 1896 dutiful American sons and daughters for the reason d'joire?

You have coddled and enabled that delusional megalomaniac who severely mismanages the Pentagon while he spins fanciful tales about saving great money and easy conquests. Please resign now.

You have failed this country in so many ways starting with the cover up of the 9-11 investigation, the shameless war profiteering, the crony hacks that run almost every major department of our government.

How hard can it be to confront the Joe Lieberman's and the Tom Delay's you work with when they shirk their oversight duties or divert our resources to places they shouldn't be? Maybe you are terrified of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove, why have you allowed Joe Biden and Grover Norquist put the working citizens way behind well heeled donors and special interest groups?

This is not partisan bickering and it is not just about FEMA, human rights, and the war. This is about salvaging the remnants of any safety, opportunities, and the sustainability of our system.

What does a child born today have to look forward to? The food supply is insecure. Will the air be safe to breathe and will the water be safe to drink? Will today's children be able to plan to raise families of their own? Will we leave them any resources to make their own way in the world?

Will any of you have the courage, the foresight to ask John Roberts his views about the limits of government power, about our right to privacy, about his role in the 2000 recount, about his role in the Iran Contra Affair? Will you have the fortitude to do the uncomfortably correct things your positions demand of you?

It is well past time that you let go of the idea that your jobs are personal entitlements. Do Your jobs or resign your posts.

I've been working my way through a three pound bag of M&M's so this isn't happening here, but granny can dream anyway.

Roberts Double Standard

I want to vomit on the next talking head that says there is nothing to object to in Roberts record because Nobody Knows Him!

How does anybody know, he is way too secretive. It sure looks like a double standard from here.
