Juan Cole, September 09, not September 11

Everybody is buzzing about Juan Cole's as usual excellent analysis of what Al Queda hoped to accomplish three years ago. I have been trying to piece something together about the Project for a New American Century and their desire for "a new Pearl Harbor" so that we could have war without end. My technical and organizational skills are well below par, so I keep losing it everytime this dinosaur of a machine hiccoughs.

I think that it is important that this gets said and explained often and I really do not think that the media or the public at large has given this enough scrutiny. With that in mind, I will just repost Juan Cole's September 09 post in it's entirety without his consent or knowlege because it is short; it's powerful and needs to be repeated until it sinks into my conservative friend's heads.

Cheney Implies Perpetual War

Dick Cheney's statement that if Americans elected John Kerry they would suffer another terrorist attack like 9/11 has provoked outrage among Democrats.

But what is interesting to me is the policy implications. Cheney seems to be saying that the reason there won't be another attack if he is reelected is because he will keep fighting "preemptive" wars.

So, he is promising us more wars, folks. And he almost certainly has Iran foremost on his mind.

It is not actually the case, of course, that fighting serial wars against states would necessarily stop international terrorism. Most terrorism is local and not under the auspices of the state.

In fact, the Bush/Cheney invasion of Iraq has certainly been good for al-Qaeda, and has expanded the recruiting pool by creating large numbers of angry young Muslim men.

When Cheney promises more "preemptive" wars, we should take him very seriously.

If you came here from somewhere that is not a progressive site I urge you to check out his site, you will never look at FOX News the same way again.

PHONEY

You know the person. He or she is emotionally distant and/or decietful and manipulative. You know the guy who pretended to like your children because he wanted to marry your sister or the woman who pretends to like you when your dad is around?

You know that person and how awkward it is when they try to show affection?

If you have any doubt, compare pictures or videos any event of Bill Clinton with people to any of those by George W Bush.

Sheesh! who knew the handshake was supposed to be a speed race? Where did I hear that he rushes to disinfect himself everytime he touches another person? Come to think of it, I don't recall any pictures of him displaying affection to anybody that haven't been stagemanaged or isn't some type of subtle putdown.

nobody. not even Laura or his kids or his dogs

Anybody here seen the tall Osama?

In the 1090 days since the famous "dead or alive" speech it was terribly convenient not to have a real suspect that we could put on trial. Say what you want about him, but he has managed to fulfill all of Dick Cheney's wet dreams.

Halliburton was on the verge of bankruptcy, but 1007 dead American servicepeople and a couple hundred billion dollars diverted from our social security, education and first responders has boosted profits considerably. Don't you worry your pretty little heads about Dick's finances though, it is their intention to bleed lives and dollars for years if not decades to come.

I begin to wonder when or if Osama bin Laden will be more instrumental in custody as the election gets closer

Just how real is it anyway?

Authentic document or Rove plant? The real issue the consistency of what we know about George W. Bush gaming the system.

I think this is all a distraction, Lambert disagrees and he really packed his post with lots of links to some really good stuff, read it all!

Hurricane Season

Florida hit hard twice in a month, will there be a third strike? Some Floridians will remain without power until next week. Wouldn't it be nice if the National Guard wasn't needlessly tied down in Iraq?

Abundance of Caution

HARDEE HAW HAW HOO HOO

From the Pentagon?

The records also show Bush made a grade of 88 on total airmanship and a perfect 100 for flying without navigational instruments[walks on water], operating a T-38 System and studying applied aerodynamics. Other scores ranged from 89 in flight planning to 98 in aviation physiology.

Just how stupid do they think we are?

We want the microfiche.

Class Act

Thank-you for a lifetime devoted to public service. Thank-you for taking so many notes. Thank-you for living with so much integrity, for being an honest man.

Senator Bob Graham you are a very brave man.

I thank you.

Saddaam is in Jail

That's what I heard Rumsfailed say when they announced that the death toll now exceeds 1000. What is the president's position? It is still this.

MY PET GOAT

What a cute story. No wonder George Wrong Bush couldn't put it down!

Only seven minutes to read it!

The twenty minute photo-op was a little over the top though.

What? You didn't really expect him to do anything else; did you?

One Simple Question

At least $497.29 bounty for the first person to ask it.

How many times have you been arrested Mr. President?

Another failed policy

I am STILL waiting for Conrad Burns to explain why his "jobs and growth" wealth redistribution plan has failed, failed to create even enough jobs for the expanding working population.

I won't even bother to ask why the new jobs pay less with fewer benefits when CEO salaries are at an all time high, profits are up and taxes on the wealthiest are just barely negligible.

ENRICHING THE FAT CATS

George Bush LIED about the Medicare bill. It's nothing but a handout to big pharma wrapped in rhetoric.

Now the so- called "beneficiaries" of Medicare are recieving the largest price increase ever. Could this be yet another amazing coincidence?

Let's put this thing in perspective. I work in Montana for Montanan's. This price increase is about 1% of my annual income. right off the top.

There are a whole lot of people who are worse off than I am.

Explain that one to me please.
