Governor Schweitzer signed four malpractice reform bills and that makes me a little nervous because I haven't had the time to check it all out, and really nervous because there are five more comming down the line.

I had a computer incident a while back and lost everything so I don't remember where I got some of this information, but here is some food for thought.

  • Most people will not sue if they are apologized too.
  • 5% of the doctors are responsible for 95% of all claims
  • The stock market is a much bigger factor in malpractice premiums than claims paid out.
  • Depriving people of full and proper recourse for damage done does not bring premiums down, it only protects really bad doctors.

Here is some more good stuff to think about when the AMA comes knocking on the door:

the Congressional Budget Office
January 8, 2004
Limiting Tort Liability for Medical Malpractice

The Attack on Trial Lawyers and Tort Law

Victims and Families United
