Why Would The NRA Lie?

Imagine my surprise when a woman who I knew to be a strong Tester supporter informed me that she wouldn't be voting for him because she found out that he wants people to register their guns and their ammunition. She explained that her relatives found out through the NRA.

I imagine that somebody with more clout than I (hint, hint, hint),can get the NRA to clear this misunderstanding up right away.
